Areas of Practice

Prescription glasses

Many people think glasses just make things sharp. In actuality, glasses can serve three different purposes. Glasses should make blurry images sharp in those with refractive error. Glasses can also make vision more comfortable in patients who have vision discomfort due to high far-sightedness or whose work involves looking at close objects (e.g. seamstresses or tattoo artists). Glasses can also re-align eyes in those patients who have eye alignment issues. We will make sure our glasses prescriptions are designed to meet all your visual needs.

Glaucoma management

Glaucoma is often called the “silent robber” of vision because its effects can occur so slowly that the patient doesn’t even realize they have a disease that is affecting his/her vision. Morgan Hill Eyecare Optometry contains the latest technology to detect glaucoma and slow or stop its progression before the patient notices any vision loss. Some risk factors for glaucoma include family history, diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. Not all optometrists have the specialized training required to detect and manage glaucoma with prescription drugs. ALL of the doctors at Morgan Hill Eyecare Optometry are glaucoma certified to detect, monitor, and prescribe medications if needed.

medication and eye complications

Your general practitioner may refer you to an optometrist before beginning certain medications that cause eye complications. But not all eye doctors have the specialized equipment to document these baselines and to monitor for eye complications if they arise. Morgan Hill Eyecare Optometry has state of the art equipment to detect complications that may arise from commonly prescribed drugs such as Plaquenil (chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine), Tamoxifen, Amiodarone, Accutane, etc.

Contact lenses

Morgan Hill Eyecare Optometry is capable of fitting all sorts of contact lenses. From simple spherical lenses to astigmatic lenses and everything in between. Multifocal lenses may be a perfect fit for patients as they age and begin to have difficulty with near vision tasks such as reading their cell phones and computers.

Diabetic retinopathy

The pupil of the eye is a window into a tiny sliver of neural tissue called the retina. The retina contains some of the finest blood vessels found anywhere in the human body. These vessels are an indicator of the health of the blood vessels in other parts of the body that are just as important such as the kidneys and the brain. Signs of hemorrhages in the retina caused by diabetes is a strong indicator of hemorrhages in other parts of the body that may lead to clots, strokes, thromboses, and possibly death. Furthermore, these tiny hemorrhages lead to reduced vision, other eye complications, and possibly blindness. A comprehensive eye exam including dilation and retinal photography is important for patients with diabetes.

Hypertensive retinopathy

High blood pressure can result in damage to blood vessels. It is important that patients with hypertension receive a comprehensive eye exam with dilation and retinal photos yearly to monitor for changes to retinal vessels. The fine blood vessels of the retina can be viewed through the pupil of the eye and can be a representative sample of other fine blood vessels of the body such as the kidneys and brain.
